Chapter Twelve

Ollie

"Hey Ollie," Shawn greeted when Daddy and I walked into the living room. "Who do you have there?" He pointed to my toy with a smile. I knew he wasn't making fun of me; Shawn was very nice, and he'd already played with me. He knew I liked toys and being little, but he still wanted to be my friend.

"This is Harold," I told him as I took a seat next to him on the couch. "Daddy bought him for me." I held my puppy out for him to inspect. "Do you want to hold him?"

Shawn squinted his eyes. "He won't bite me, will he?"

I giggled and shook my head. "No, he's a good dog."

Shawn took my pup and made him sniff my head and ears, making me giggle some more. It meant a lot to me that he was willing to play with me and be silly even though he wasn't a Daddy himself. He did it just to make me happy. I could tell that it made Daddy happy too because he was watching us with a big smile.

I squealed when a knock sounded on the door. "Pizza!" I danced in my seat as Shawn laughed and Daddy paid for our dinner. I stood up to go into the kitchen, and gave Daddy a curious look when he put the box on the coffee table.

"Since we're having a special dinner, I think we should have it in a special place," he explained. "Would you like to watch some cartoons while we eat?"

"Pizza and cartoons? Oh, this is a special night!"

Shawn laughed and Daddy gave me a pretty smile. "Shawn, would you care to help Ollie find something to watch while I grab some drinks and plates from the kitchen?"

"Sure." Daddy disappeared and Shawn clicked the TV on with the remote. "Okay buddy, tell me if you see something you like." I kept my eyes on the screen as he flipped through channels.

"There!" I exclaimed when a cartoon show with talking trains appeared. "I'd like to watch this please."

"You got it," he smiled.

Daddy reappeared with his arms full. He passed a soda to Shawn and put another one on the table before handing me a red sippy cup. "It's fruit punch."

"Mm, my favorite. Thank you." I pursed my lips and he gave me a kiss. It didn't feel awkward to kiss Daddy in front of Shawn; I knew he was happy for us. Besides, I wanted everyone to know how much I loved Daddy.

"If you like, you can sit on the floor and eat on the coffee table."

"Good idea, Daddy." I scooted into the floor and Daddy sat on the sofa with his friend. Shawn piled some pizza on a white porcelain plate, while Daddy placed two pieces on a red plastic dish that matched my cup. He cut the pizza into little squares and pushed it in front of me.

"That will help it cool faster."

"Thanks." I gave him another kiss just because I wanted to. I used the fork he gave me to jab my little pizza squares and eat them one by one.
